in 1971, the first ever email was sent by RAY TOMLINSON OF U.S.A. an engineering working at the computer company bolt,beranek and newman in cambridge, massachussetts, U.S.A. the e-mail was initially designed as an experiment by ray to see if has add to get two computers to exchange a message. he was also responsible for choosing to use the @ symbol to separate the recipients name from their location. the first email message was "QWERTYUIOP"
